Coop Construction, Weekend #1

May 25, 2010

Construction has begun on Coop deVille. The girls are growing so quickly that completion can’t come soon enough!

We woke up in the morning to rain, a very unusual happening for us this time of the year. It seemed as though it was going to pass quickly, or at least I had hoped it would, but no…by 10am we had down-pouring skies and hail, which is almost unheard of for us in late May. Thankfully it passed quickly, and the area where the coop is going to be placed has excellent drainage. It was construction ready by the time Mr. CV’s brother, his wife and son arrived. At this point things began to move fast, so…

Of course, every construction project requires a supervisor, although the lack of clipboard caused me to question his credentials:

The foundation framing was built, square and level, and as I watched Mr. CV and his brother working on this project together, I couldn’t help but think about how happy my dearly departed father-in-law would be to see them working together.

Oh! How did he get involved in this project? Pesky gnome.

Blue Moon: the lunch choice of construction workers far and wide, and Joe the Plumber.

The first wall framing is up. Measure twice, cut once!

A Coop with a View:

A lot was accomplished in a few short hours, and I couldn’t be more pleased. Bits and pieces will be done during the work week, and by the end of the weekend we should be ready for trim and paint.

Tomorrow: New pics of the girls!

Yay!! It looks great so far! Can’t wait to see it in person this weekend :D

Wow! I’d call that a Coop Royale! Or maybe a Coop deVille. ;D

Love it, love it. Can’t wait to see it completed along with the chicks. I know they will be happy in there and give you an endless supply of yummy fresh eggs. How about Coupe de America? Oh wait, it’s a chicken coop not a yacht. lol

Mr. CV and I worked on it tonight, framing the fourth wall and roof. Tomorrow, with luck, the doors will be made and hopefully installed. Trim and painting this weekend, if all the stars align. :D

    This looks very palatial!
Lucky chickens. Do they get a say in the colour scheme, or do you choose for them? :)

    • Toni Says:

The consensus amongst the girls is that we should stay in the green tones…something cool and soothing. So, most likely we’ll paint Coop d’Ville in a sage-green with cream colored trim. :) Thanks for stopping by!

Did you and Mr. CV design the coop, or did you use other plans? It is turning out very nicely! Your girls are lucky!

    • Toni Says:

The general idea came from here, so we had a very good idea of just how we wanted it to look, but unfortunately no specific plans. That made things slower going, but well worth the effort, considering the savings.

Thanks so much! I’ll be sure to tell Mr. CV that you approve! :)
